Thanks to Essendon Little Athletics for having us along to 2 meets already this summer. Melbourne Sports Photography founder, Craig Dingle, has photographed one Saturday morning event, and more recently, one Friday night twilight event.
Blessed with good weather, Craig enjoyed watching the young athletes giving their all as the sun set.
Being able to create silhouette images against the setting sun is a lot of fun, so in addition to standard track and field images Craig was able to create some unique images highlighting the athletes form.
We hope the athletes and families enjoy the images, and hope to see you again this season.
The Melbourne Sports Photography team again photographed the Victorian Figure Skating Championships in 2024. Craig and Phil spent 2 days at O'Brien Icehouse along with the best skaters in Victoria and a good number of competitors from interstate. After the event, Zoe and Kia did the bulk of the work selecting and editing key images. Those images are now live on the Melbourne Sports Photography website. (They are in a password protected gallery. The link and password have been sent to competitors by Ice Skating Victoria.)
The standard of competition was high, making it a great event to watch and to photograph.
If you are wanting to check out the images, please do so promptly, as the galleries will close on 18 November 2024.
If you are interested in figure skating, the Victorian State Champs are held in October each year, leading up to the national champs at the end of November and the beginning to December.
In 2024 the national champs are in Melbourne at O'Brien Icehouse from 30 November to 6 December. The Melbourne Sports Photography team will be there to photograph the event. If you are going to be there, please come and say hi!
Thank you to the Victorian Figure Skating community for making the Melbourne Sports Photography team welcome. Congratulations on an excellent event, and for those going to the national champs, we look forward to seeing you there!
Melbourne Sports Photography expanded the large number of sports it works with when we supplied team photos for the Ten Pin Bowling competition - the East Coast Challenge Cup in September.
The East Coast Challenge Cup includes bowlers from Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria, with each state taking turns in hosting the event. This year it was hosted by Victoria and held at Wyncity Keon Park Bowling in Thomastown.
Melbourne Sports Photography's team, Craig, Phil and Phina spent 4 hours on the Monday shooting both team shots, individual player portraits, and family / group shots for the New South Wales and Victorian teams. (We understand Queensland might have done their own before coming to the event. Hopefully we might see you again in 3 years time - the next time Victoria hosts the East Coast Challenge Cup!).
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday were very busy days - with post production led by Melbourne Sports Photography's editing star, Sally. A super quick turnaround from print partner had us packing print orders by Thursday night. (This was just as well, as in the planning of this job Craig had forgotten Friday was a public holiday in Melbourne!)
By Friday late afternoon we were delivering prints to Renee at the event. And while Phil and Craig were there they saw one Victorian bowler record a perfect game! All strikes! Amazing.
Thank you to Renee for trusting us with this project. We hope you had an enjoyable week.
For any bowlers who missed out on ordering team photos - drop us an email, we can still organise prints for you.
We hope to see you again next time Victoria hosts the East Coast Challenge Cup!
The Melbourne Sports Photography team recently had the opportunity to work with 2 teams from LC Elite Basketball to create unique sports portraits. (Our understanding is that their rep club didn't do team photos this year, so some of the parents organised the session with us to capture the memories from the season.)
The shoot was held at a local sports stadium which hires out "community rooms". What a great idea community rooms are! This one was a large space with plenty of room to set up our lights and backgrounds.
We shot one team after the other, with an hour for each team, and time in the middle where we had some players from each team combine for friends shots.
We included a team photo for each team, including players and coaches (not shown here).
By far the highlight for the players was being able to participate in a fun session and create unique portraits - very different than a normal team photo session.
Thanks to the players, coaches, and families we met during this shoot. Craig and Phil, from Melbourne Sports Photography, had a lot of fun working with you and were delighted to hear that both teams went on to win their VJBL grand finals! Congratulations!
It's always nice for the Melbourne Sports Photography team when we receive recognition for our work, and so it was exciting to be listed as number one on this list of the 5 Best Sports Photographers in Melbourne.
The image shown on that article is one of our football action images. If you are new to Melbourne Sports Photography, we shoot action images, team photos, and an increasing number of creative sports portraits.
Our action photography is across a wide range of sports. It's almost a case of name it, and we have probably photographed it. That said, we are still looking for a lacrosse club who would like some help with their imagery.
The second major area the Melbourne Sports Photography team operate in is team photos. Mostly this is done on location at local sporting clubs. Our equipment is all mobile and we can come to you.
And the third major area of work for Melbourne Sports Photography is in sports portraits. These are becoming increasingly popular. Again, our equipment is mobile and we can come to you for these shoots.
These shoots are available for both individual athletes and whole teams. (We also do standard portraits if you need something less creative for things like your club committee members!)
If you would like to discuss how we can help you, please get in touch. Details are on the Contact page here on the Melbourne Sports Photography website.
