Modern Sports Portraits
Melbourne Sports Photography are continuing to push the boundaries on modern sports portraits. There is growing demand for informal, creative and unique sports portraits, and we are having a lot of fun doing these.
In a recent shoot with the Camberwell Dragons Under 14 Boys basketball team, we had a terrific time creating these portraits.
Each of these effects are achieved in camera with minimal post production work.
The backgrounds are made by the Melbourne Sports Photography team - led by 'chief background maker' Phil. This background has the horizontal lines cut into it, and the white light effect is achieved by firing a strobe from behind the background. The cool player effect is achieved by having some keen sports people who are happy to show some personality in front of camera! The smoke effect comes from a canned smoke product and gets lit by the strobe from behind and another strobe in front.

Promoting Baseball
Building on the work with the Victorian Kookaburras baseball team earlier in the year, Melbourne Sports Photography recently did a shoot with Preston Pirates Baseball Club. On an unusually sunny Melbourne winters day we shot a series of promotional images for the club covering fielding, batting, pitching, and group images.
Thanks so much to the players who volunteered to be involved and who got up bright and early on a Sunday morning to be there.

Wrapping up Winter Team Photos
2024 has been a super busy year for the Melbourne Sports Photography team for team photos. As July finishes we are wrapping up our shoots of winter sports for the year - leaving a few weeks to complete the editing of our recent shoots and to deliver the prints before the end of the season.

Our studio equipment is mobile, and most commonly the Melbourne Sports Photography team come to you. All we need is a good sized indoor space. A club rooms or stadium space is ideal.
We have a team of photographers ready to come to you - supported by a team of editors and a great print supplier.

Thank you Camberwell District Basketball Association
It has been exciting for the team at Melbourne Sports Photography to work with the Camberwell District Basketball Association again in 2024. CDBA comprises both the Camberwell Dragons representative basketball program and the Community Basketball League - a large domestic basketball competition in Melbourne's eastern suburbs.
This year Melbourne Sports Photography has again done team photos for the 56 Camberwell Dragons VJBL teams and 4 Big V teams, action images for the Community Basketball League, action images for the Big V teams, and founder Craig Dingle participated in CDBA's Outside the Lines program discussing options for people interested in entering the world of sports photography.
We are fortunate to have many multi year relationships like the one Melbourne Sports Photography has with the Camberwell District Basketball Association, and are grateful for the relationships formed and the opportunity to contribute to community sport.

Oceania Figure Skating Competition
It was the Melbourne Sports Photography team's pleasure to photograph the 2024 Oceania Figure Skating Competition held at O'Brien Icehouse on 29, 30, and 31 May 2024. The competition included skaters from around Australia, New Zealand, and a good contingent from further afield including places such as Malaysia, The Philippines, and Singapore.
The standard of skating across the 3 days of competition was high, leading to some unique and impactful images.
Thank you to Wendy and the team from Ice Skating Australia who made the Melbourne Sports Photography team feel very welcome.
While figure skating is a relatively small sport (currently!) in Australia, it is a big sport on a worldwide basis and attracts a lot of attention each time the Winter Olympics rolls around. We will be watching the skating at the next Winter Olympics with a much greater appreciation for the ability of the skaters and the photographers!
