This last week, two of the Melbourne Sports Photography team, joined with Comm23 to photograph and video the AASCF Cheer and Dance National Championships. Craig and Kia had a fun, busy, and tiring time as thousands of athletes did their thing.
The event was held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre and involved over 12,000 athletes, 180 clubs and 2,550 teams. This broke previous records and throughout the 5 days there was a fantastic energy at the venue.

For the first four days there were 3 halls running at once with a new routine every 4 minutes. That makes for busy days and lots of photographs!

Each hall had a slightly different lighting set up meaning there were opportunities to shoot images which were unique to each hall. The scale of the event is very large which makes it unique as a Melbourne sporting event at an indoor venue. Craig and Kia were part of a 12 person team responsible for the photography and videography of the event.

On the fifth day, the event culminated with the "Road to Worlds" where teams compete for the right to get through to the annual world event held in Florida, USA.
Thanks to AASCF for a terrific event, and to Kerry and the Comm23 team for having Craig and Kia as part of the crew.
It was great to have Ringwood Hawks NBL1 player Jonathan Lawton in the studio during October. Melbourne Sports Photography's Craig Dingle described it as a very fun shoot where Jonathan brought a range of creative ideas as well as his athlete's looks.

In 2026, Jonathan will be heading into his 4th season with the Ringwood Hawks, planning to continue his strong performances and with ambitions to feature in finals.

Keep a lookout for him on the court once the 2026 NBL1 season starts. And off the court check out the progress with his clothing label.
Thanks for coming into the studio Jonathan. Best wishes for 2026.

It was unique to have two European basketball teams competing in Melbourne when Panathinaikos and Partizan played at John Cain Arena as part of the Pavlos Giannakopoulos Tournament. Melbourne Sports Photography's Craig and Kia were there to photograph the action for a Greek photo agency, busily working between photographing and sending the images during the game.
The Greek and Serbian local communities got behind the event and John Cain Arena was sold out. That made for a fun, dynamic atmosphere.

Partizan led the game in the early stages and Panathinaikos came back to win in a game which featured several powerful dunks.

It was a unique and enjoyable event and so great to see a big crowd supporting the event.

Thank you to Melbourne Figure Skating Club for having Melbourne Sports Photography's Craig Dingle along to photograph the Gems on the Ice event.
