February 11, 2025

Dexter and Craig have been at it again. For the third time these two got together to shoot creative player portraits prior to the start of the 2025 Big V basketball season. The outcome is some unique portraits of Dexter, in time for Big V commencing next month.

MelbourneSportsPhotography-9811MelbourneSportsPhotography-9811 Dexter will be turning out for Surf Coast in Men's Division 2. He and his team mates came close last year, and will be looking to go one better this year and win the title.

Hera Bjork Ice Skating Event

January 27, 2025

The Melbourne Sports Photography team photographed a unique event this month - Hera Bjork singing while some of Victoria's leading ice skaters performed around her! This fascinating event was a fund raising initiative hosted by Ice Skating Victoria and held at O'brien Icehouse in Docklands.

If you are a Eurovision Song Contest fan, you may know that Hera Bjork represented Iceland in the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest. The Melbourne Sports Photography team on the night, Craig and Phil, found out she had a big voice as she performed some well known songs. She is currently conducting a tour of Australia with a number of performances around the country.

Making this event unique, she was performing on the ice with skaters in action around her.

MelbourneSportsPhotography-8507MelbourneSportsPhotography-8507 The skating had a "showtime" feel to it with colourful costumes and lighting adding to the atmosphere. The skaters seemed to really enjoy the event, free from the pressures of competing and able to enjoy the skating, the music, and the people.

MelbourneSportsPhotography-8884MelbourneSportsPhotography-8884 The event had a fast moving feel to it, with never a dull moment, and always filled with music or skating or both.

MelbourneSportsPhotography-9221MelbourneSportsPhotography-9221 Congratulations to the organiser, Chris, Ice Skating Victoria, all the skaters, O'brien Icehouse, and Hera Bjork for putting on a very entertaining evening and an excellent fund raising event.

Thanks for having the Melbourne Sports Photography team along to such a unique event!

Australian Figure Skating Championships 2024

December 13, 2024

The Melbourne Sports Photography team thoroughly enjoyed photographing the Australian Figure Skating Championships for 2024. Held at O'Brien Icehouse in Melbourne from 30 November to 6 December, Phil and Craig spent the week photographing Australia's best figure skaters.

MelbourneSportsPhotography-2944MelbourneSportsPhotography-2944 It was terrific to start with 2 full days of synchro, and to feel the energy brought by having the stands full of spectators! What a buzz. Congratulations to all those who brought so much energy to the synchro competition.

This was followed by 5 days of pairs and individual skating, showcasing a great level of athletic ability and skating skill.

In the week since the competition we have reviewed and edited just over 70,000 images. The galleries are now live here on the Melbourne Sports Photography website.

For those who had completed the expression of interest form, we have edited and uploaded your images, and have emailed the password to you. Thanks so much for the positive feedback we have received so far.

If you hadn't completed the expression of interest but would still like us to edit your images, please make contact via email. We did photograph every routine, and can add these to the website.

The galleries will close on 24 December 2024, so if you are wanting to view and purchase images, please do so before then. Thank you.

Finally a thanks and a congratulations. Thank you to Zoe who led the work on editing a large number of images in a short time. Terrific work (and ably supported by Kat and Craig.) Congratulations to Ice Skating Australia, Ice Skating Victoria, and all the skaters on a great event. We hope you enjoy the images.

Twilight Little Athletics

November 14, 2024

Thanks to Essendon Little Athletics for having us along to 2 meets already this summer. Melbourne Sports Photography founder, Craig Dingle, has photographed one Saturday morning event, and more recently, one Friday night twilight event.

Blessed with good weather, Craig enjoyed watching the young athletes giving their all as the sun set.

MelbourneSportsPhotography-8831MelbourneSportsPhotography-8831

Being able to create silhouette images against the setting sun is a lot of fun, so in addition to standard track and field images Craig was able to create some unique images highlighting the athletes form.

MelbourneSportsPhotography-8626MelbourneSportsPhotography-8626 We hope the athletes and families enjoy the images, and hope to see you again this season.
